Farmer2Farmer grows farm sector capacity through peer support and development. The annual Farmer2Farmer Gathering is the primary activity and is complemented by several other initiatives designed to assist new farmers. Over 50% of our farm sector will retire in the next decade and there is a real need to equip the next generation with the resources, knowledge and experience they need to succeed.
The Farmer2Farmer Gathering is an initiative about local people, local issues, and local solutions! It provides powerful networking and learning opportunities for farmers and food producers in the region. Each year over 200 regional farmers come together for an annual conference, farm tours, and trade show. In addition, there is a farmer2farmer communications network list and mentor pool on the farmer2farmer website.
Growing New Farmers
New farmers face all the normal hurdles of starting a business combined with a set of unique challenges that include a lack of locally appropriate technical assistance and barriers to accessing land and capital. Through our Growing New Farmers projects, CRFAIR is working to get behind new growers, linking them to resources, micro loans, land, and other growers.
