Land Access: Accessing Public Land
Publicly held lands, ranging from underutilized municipal parcels and parks to broader institutional spaces, represent an untapped opportunity to expand equitable food production and community gathering places. Accessing public land provides an alternative pathway that bypasses the prohibitive costs of the private real estate market. Through mechanisms like community garden licensing agreements, temporary land-use permits, and strategic municipal leases, local governments can intentionally allocate land assets to community groups.
